The Global Challenges Research Fund es una iniciativa del Departamento de Comercio, Energía e Industrias Estratégicas (BEIS) del Reino Unido que opera en asociación con instituciones británicas, entre las cuales están incluidas las siguientes: Research Councils, UK Higher Education Funding bodies, the Academy of Medical Sciences, Royal Society, British Academy, the Royal Academy of Engineering and UK Space Agency.

The call is usually made between the months of enero and diciembre of the year when the grant starts.
